Methodology

Status is derived from the current certificate expiry date when available. A certificate is treated as valid through the end of its expiry day.

Days remaining are calculated from today to the expiry date. Expired certificates show how many days have passed since expiry.

Approximate annual mileage is estimated from the span between the earliest and latest recorded MOT mileage readings when enough history exists.

If recorded mileage decreases between tests, we flag that the history needs attention and explain the decrease in plain language without making unsupported accusations.

We display defect text and categories as provided by the data source. We do not invent severity labels beyond what the provider supplies.

We do not physically inspect vehicles, verify repairs, or confirm write-off, finance or stolen status unless a dedicated licensed provider is connected.
